Acupuncture – Healing by Qi

Does it work? More patients are now seeking acupuncture treatment for their ailments and some are referred by their family doctor. 10 years ago, it would be extremely rare to almost impossible to see a doctor recommending acupuncture to their patients. Perception has now changed with time and an increasing number of physiotherapists, chiropractors and even doctors are taking certification courses in acupuncture (or dry needling/IMS) to include in their scope of practice. Do Acupuncturists agree? – No, “Does it work?” – Absolutely!

There are many dimensions of ways how to explain acupuncture. It can be explained in terms of Qi and energy flow along with the intricate meridian system, as well as in musculoskeletal terms and trigger points. Science has also published their studies in terms of how acupuncture stimulates the release of endorphins and regulatory hormones, and the effect in neurotransmitter levels. They are all true, and our Registered Acupuncturists in Uniqcon Health has completed a minimum of 4 years which is equivalent to 3000 hours of training to understand all the various aspects of how to manage your pain using Acupuncture safely and effectively.

Common treatment approaches used are, but not limited to:
  • Acupuncture/IMS/Dry Needling: After carefully analyzing the injury and the pattern of the root cause, a small number of acupuncture points and/or trigger points (normally two to six) are selected in a single position and then inserted with a thin needle causing a mild stimulating sensation.
  • Cupping: Used primarily to help release pressure in specific trigger points. 2-4 cupping.
  • Acupressure/Tui-na: Hands-on pressure and stretching applied before the acupuncture treatment to help relax the muscle and further enhance the result.
  • Electro-stimulation: Mild electro stimulation applied to the needles. In 90 percent of cases gentle stimulation from the needle alone is more than enough.
